In one of the biggest sponsorship deals inked in the history of South African Sport, Absa is now the Official Sponsor of the major South African national rugby teams. The announcement was made at a launch ceremony in Johannesburg on 3 February. This landmark sponsorship contract was brokered by leading Sport and Entertainment marketing company, MEGAPRO Marketing.
Commencing 2011, the five-year agreement will see the Absa name and logo appearing on the playing and training jerseys of the Springbok and the Springbok Sevens teams in all international events except for Rugby World Cup tournaments. The deal covers the Springbok Women and SA Under 20 teams.
A committed supporter of South African rugby, Absa has been a proud sponsor of the nation’s premier domestic tournament, the Absa Currie Cup, for the past 25 years. Further extending the Group’s commitment to the game clearly conveys Absa's dedication to rugby at all levels.
David Jenkins, MEGAPRO CEO commented that, “The sponsorship is a tribute to Absa’s enthusiasm for the sport as a national passion. We are immensely proud to have played a role in setting a foundation for growing the game to new heights going forward.” “In our 25th anniversary year, we are thrilled to be in a position to support Rugby in South Africa at this level,” concluded Jenkins.
